I hope you have enjoyed the 33 tips so far to save you money and this week, if you are following along with the 52 Week Money Challenge, you should deposit $34 into your money savings jar or $23 if you are doing the challenge in reverse. Let’s talk about another money saving tip: Take a Second Look.
52 Money Save Ways: Week 34: Take a Second Look
When I am talking about taking a second look, I am thinking about your bills. I think many times, especially when we pay the same bill to the same company for years, we think this is the best deal or there is no other deal or better price out there since this was the best option at the time we signed up for whatever service or payment plan. There are several bills you can take a second look at to make sure you are getting the best deal out there! Companies want to compete for your service, so even mentioning that you are wanting to switch may save you money. Here are some places that you may be able to save on:
Cable Services: Usually, most cable companies offer 6 month or 1 year promotions at a lower rate and then your service rate drastically increases. If you have more than one adult in your household, did you know that you can often just keep switching names the account is under in order to keep the savings flowing? When it gets close to your promo period ending, inquire about the new promos and cancel your account, starting a new one in another adult’s name. I learned this one from the cable company themselves and have done it in the past. It really can save you a lot!
Cell Phone Carriers: When your service is almost up, don’t just stick with your provider. Often, cell phone providers will offer you a rebate if you switch to them from your current cell phone carrier. All you need to do is ask and many times, you can even keep your phone!
Car insurance: After you have been with a company for a while, it is easy to stay there. However, did you know that simply carrying insurance for a long period of time with no lapse can actually lower your premiums with other companies? Next time you are up for renewal, ask around, and get quotes. If you really like the company you are with, ask them if they would be willing to meet a price that you find lower. If not, ask them if they have extra discounts that you may not be taking advantage of. I get a discount simply for having a Paypal account with my insurance company!
Look at all your bills and simply make some phone calls to see if you can pay less! It doesn’t hurt to try!
