Additional tips:
- With the rising cost of beef, you can use pork (1 pound of pork vs. 1/2 pound).
- A healthier option would be ground turkey instead of beef + pork.
- Also, with the rising cost of food, including eggs, butter, and meat, the cost of the ingredients to make this meal has gone (versus when we first shared it in 2014.)
Ingredients needed for Baked Spaghetti
- 16 oz. thick spaghetti
- 1⁄2 lb. ground beef
- 1⁄2 lb. ground pork
- 1 red onion, Chopped
- 24 oz. Jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce
- 1 Tbsp. Italian Seasoning
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 4 Tbsp. butter, melted
- 1⁄2 Cup Grated Romano Cheese
- 2 Cups Cottage or Ricotta Cheese
- 16 oz. Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Instructions on making Baked Spaghetti
Preheat oven to 350 ̊.
Cook the spaghetti in a large pot with salted water just short of al dente, about 1 minute less than the package directions. Drain and set aside to cool slightly.
In a large pan over medium-high heat, brown the beef, and pork with the red onion.
Drain well and add back to the pan along with the spaghetti sauce, Italian Seasoning, garlic powder, and Worcestershire Sauce; stir to combine.
Bring to a simmer and turn off the heat.
In a large bowl or the pot you used to cook the spaghetti, combine the eggs, butter, and romano cheese.
Add the cooked Spaghetti and toss to coat.
In a greased 9×13 pan, layer 1⁄2 of the spaghetti evenly on the bottom.
Then layer 1⁄2 of the cottage cheese evenly over the spaghetti.
Then layer 1⁄2 of the sauce evenly over the cottage cheese.
Then layer 1⁄2 of the mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
Repeat with remaining ingredients.
Optionally you can sprinkle additional Italian Seasoning over the top.
Bake covered at 350 ̊ for 30 minutes, then uncovered for an additional 30-40 minutes until the cheese is melted and browning slightly around the edges.
Cut into 12 squares and serve hot.
Enjoy!

It would be nice to see the price breakdown because the two ground meats alone would be at least 4 dollars, spaghetti a dollar, a bag of cheese at least 2 dollars, a jar of sauce a dollar, etc. It seems to be way over $5. (You listed this as a recipe under $5 on another page.)
Hey Sarah- I think it will eventually boil down to where you buy your groceries and where you live. I can make this meal under $5 bucks. The last time I made it I only paid for the meat and that was also on sale. The cheese, pasta and sauce were free using coupons and store promotions. So it is definitely doable.
