Coupon Tip: When Is The Best Time To Use Your Coupons

Since you’ve started couponing and getting some fantastic coupons, you need to make sure you’re using them at the right time. So when is the best to use your coupons?
The trick in using the coupon to get the BEST price is when you can combine the coupon with a sale and hopefully a rock bottom price. Also factor in any catalina offers and other store/coupon promotions going on at the same time.
Free Product Coupons:
When you get a coupon that is good towards a FREE item without purchasing anything can be rare to find these days. The best time I see these Free product coupons is coming directly from the manufacturer (when you write, email, etc) and sometimes still in the paper.
It may be tempting to want to go out and use that coupon right away because.. heck the item is going to be free.
But know as a savvy saver and shopper you want to maximize that coupon to the fullest. Maximize your savings by using the coupon when there is a Buy 1 get 1 Free sale– where you can use that coupon to get products vs just one.
Coupon Expiration
It’s getting close to the date of the expiration on that coupon and you didn’t find a good deal. Now coupons expire just as quick as they come. However if you didn’t find a good sale to use that coupon, it’s okay to let it expire. Unless it’s a RARE coupon or a FREE coupon, many times that coupon will come back around again. So if you can’t find a cheap/okay deal to use it on— it’s okay to let it expire.
Rock Bottom Prices
This is when we really want to use our coupons; when we found deals that are going to give us the BEST price with our coupon. It’s important to keep track of how much you are paying each time for that item- you can do this in a spreadsheet format, or a price book. Whatever works for you, always keep track of what you’re paying. You want should get to a point where you know without anyone telling you if you’re getting the best deal.
If so, go ahead and use those coupons.
*this is also a good reason you should follow a blog that covers stores and in the same region as you. Their rock bottom prices will match similarly to yours since you shop at the same stores.
Doubles/Stacking:
Use your coupons at stores will you help maximize the most out of that coupon. Check your store for details but many grocery stores will double coupons! Kmart is the only store around me with doubling options. This usually happens about once per month, they will double up to $2.00.
Many stores will allow “stacking”. What this means is that you can use a manufacturer coupon along with a store coupon. Stacking them together you can maximize your savings that way. Stores like CVS, Walgreens, Target, and many others allow this type of couponing!
