DIY Patriotic Centerpiece: Save on Summer Essentials with Dollar General
On a warm sun drenched day the excited laughter of children can be heard as they run barefoot through the cool sprinklers or riding their bikes up and down familiar neighborhood streets. Close by you can feel the vibration of the music coming from your neighbor’s house or a passing car with its top down. On a warm breeze the unmistakeable smell of BBQ Chicken, Ribs, hotdogs, steaks and more floats through the air. Yes, these are all undeniable signs of summer.
When summer comes to town there will be graduation to attend and open houses and many outside birthday and pool parties. Tons of baby showers and weddings (coincidence? I think not!).
And guess what? Dollar General has you covered on all of these items. Over the weekend, I decided to stop by our local Dollar General. I was looking for some final touches for a Memorial Day related table decor idea. So many people have discovered that Dollar General is for more than just the basics, including me. Save on summer essentials with Dollar General!
Buying decorations that are only going to be used one time seems like a total waste at times. I’m always looking for ways to recycle and re-purpose items I already have on hand. However, at times I am not always successful and I have to purchase items brand new. Working with a budget can be difficult. But with all the great inexpensive items at Dollar General, grabbing something new works for me. It is a known fact, my party budget will go a little further shopping at Dollar General. Plus, the Dollar General stores typically have $5 off $25 coupons popping up all the time, and this helps me save even more!
While browsing through the store aisles, I noticed Dollar General had nice selection of Patriotic related decorations. This got the wheels in my head spinning round and round with great ideas. I came up with a concept for putting together a Patriotic themed Backyard BBQ.
The new movie: Avengers: Age of Ultron just came out, so the patriotic super hero Captain American wave is pretty hot right now. And of course, I would be willing to bet there will be lots of kids wanting to enjoy a Red, White and Blue Captain America themed birthday party this summer too. But here’s the good part, the same Red, White and Blue items used for:
- a baby showers around the 4th of July or Memorial Day weekend.
- a graduation or open house party could also sport a patriotic theme.
- celebrating an adult friend or family members birthday especially if they are a military veteran
Either way you look at this, these colorful decorations will work with any type of party!
Since almost everyone likes to entertain Memorial Day Weekend, I’ve put together a simple Red, White and Blue Centerpiece.
Creating the centerpieces: I always start with the middle of any table and work my way out. The centerpiece is always the focus of the table.
Supplies:
- Clear Vases
- Wrapping paper
- White, Red and Blue fans
- Wooden Sticks
- OR you can also use decorative paper straws
- Tape or a heated glue-gun
I absolutely love decorating with wrapping paper. It’s a great way to bring character and liven up an area. Plus you can save money by re-purposing a vase. So for this idea, just wrap the bottom of the vase with any type of wrapping paper (and yes, wrapping paper can be picked up from Dollar General too!)
Follow the directions on the fan to open them up.
Then take the string and wrap it around the sticks. Hot glue or tape (tape always works better for me) the stick to the inside of the fan closure.
Put the fans inside of the vase. Boom, you’re done. Yes, this easy DIY idea was just that easy, plus it looks great.
Continue to decorate the rest of the table. As you can see, I picked up these patriotic themed decorations at Dollar General. This is such a simple idea for a BBQ/Patriotic related party theme. The kids will love the hats and glasses (probably the adults too). However, if you want to do everything plastic, you can also pick up these items from Dollar General.
Now this fun Red, White and Blue Centerpiece is ready to party!
