Why Goldfish Swim (Okemos) Is The Place To Party!
As mothers, the first few years of our children are too young to realize what it means to have a birthday. Sure, we throw little get together’s for our closest friends and family to help celebrate the big day, but in those early years, it’s more about us wanting to make memories than it is for our little ones. Realistically speaking, our kids don’t even realize the significance of their birthday until about 5 or so, and then they start the process of getting excited at the prospect of cake, presents and having an entire day dedicated to having the spotlight on them.
The older our kids get, the more excited they become for their special day. As parents we spend months leading up to their birthdays desperately trying to plan something special and significant for the big day, so, by the time it rolls around we’re often burnt out on party planning. Places like Chuck E Cheese and other party locations make planning parties easier on parents as well as guests, but there comes a time when you realize party spots just aren’t cool anymore, and you have to begin the planning process all over again. Each year it gets harder to plan something unique and fun for the birthday boy/girl, and you find yourself exhausting possibilities, thus having to think outside the box for your party needs. I’ve done the over-budget-over-planned birthday parties in the past, but not anymore.
I wasn’t planning on giving Zayd’n a birthday party, but he is the type of kid that really loves to party and celebrate his special day. After all, it’s not every day you turn 11. We decided to give Okemos Goldfish Swim School a try.
Okemos is decorated in fun, vibrant colors that appeal to children of all ages. Although their curriculum focuses on teaching children to swim with confidence, they also work on building their character as well. The swim school is more than just fueled by the need to help children learn to swim; it’s run on the pure passion the team at Okemos has for their students, and the desire to see them succeed while ensuring lives are saved by the techniques taught during lessons.
Although primarily a swim school, Okemos offers other opportunities as well. In addition to their own swim team, they also host a family swim session, but for our purposes, it was the lure of their pool parties that caught our attention. Plus, I’ve seen Groupon deals on birthday packages in the past and had put it on my bucket list of places to hold a party.
Nothing is more fun for an 11-year-old than a poolside birthday party. Complete with a pool that is kept at a fabulous 90 degrees, the Okemos party is an excellent option for parents struggling to nail down party options for the big day. The party is hosted privately, meaning the swim school is closed to only those included in the private party, and the staff does virtually everything for you in the area of party planning.
Each party is priced to host 24 guests and includes one party coordinator and two certified lifeguards. For parties exceeding 24 guests, the school included two additional lifeguards for added safety measures. Other included party perks include:
- Two hours of access to private facility
- Invitations with a map to the facility and matching envelopes
- Table coverings, plates, cups, napkins, and forks
- Balloons, Tropical decorations, and centerpieces
- Cupcakes and beverages for the children
- Goldfish T-shirt for the birthday boy/girl
- Separate eating area for lunch
