I love when new and exciting things happen right at home. Especially, when that new thing is family-friendly! If you haven’t heard the news by now, we have a new exhibit on display at Impression 5 Science Center.
Impression 5 Hot Wheels Exhibit {& Hyundai Elantra Limited}
Many of you may have been to Impression 5 in the past year or so, and noted all of the recent changes to our Science Center. With the expansion of Impression 5, including the 4500 square foot traveling exhibit hall, this opens up the doors to bring in a ton of new and exciting things! Starting with HotWheels™: Race to Win™, the first-ever exhibit here in Michigan!
Here’s a little more about this NEW and exciting exhibit for families:
The exhibit gives families a behind-the-scenes look at the thrilling world of racing and investigates the scientific process for designing super-fast cars. You’ll enjoy hands-on experiences, authentic race gear, and captivating memorabilia while experimenting with speed, power, and performance using HotWheels cars and tracks!
Produced by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and Mattel. HOTWHEELS and associated trademarks and trade dress are owned by, and used under license from, Mattel. ©2016 Mattel. All Rights Reserved.
When does it open?
This exhibit is open to the public now through Friday, January 6, 2017.
How much does it cost?
There is no special fee to check out the HotWheels exhibit. It is included in the price of admission into Impression 5 Science Center. See prices here.

I had a chance to check out the HotWheels recently, and I can’t wait to go back with the boys. When the boys were younger, they were HUGE fans of those little race cars.
There are five different areas to explore in this exhibit.
Area 1: Garage Entry
Children and families enter Hot Wheels: Race to Win through a faux, dimensional opened garage door.
Area 2: Blue Zone (Design)
What makes one car faster than another? Getting ready to race means choosing the right body and tires designed to maximize your speed. Here in the Blue Zone, find out how race teams adjust their cars to give them the edge to win
Area 3: Yellow Zone (Power)
What makes a car GO? Every car needs an engine to get off the starting line. Here in the Yellow Zone, find out how engines use fuel to spin the wheels and burn up the track!
Area 4: Green Zone (Speed)
When it comes right down to it, it’s all about the speed! On race day, every team is focused on crossing the finish line first. Here in the Green Zone, see what happens on race day as drivers and their teams pour on the speed to WIN.
Area 5: Red Zone (Safety)
Racing is a dangerous sport. Winning the race is the goal—but sometimes crashes happen. The safety of the driver is always everyone’s top priority. Here in the Red Zone, learn about the technology that keeps drivers, crews, and fans SAFE at a race!
The Hot Wheels™: Race to Win™ exhibit is on loan from The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. We went to Indy last year, and of course, going to this museum was on our bucket list. All three of our boys LOVED this children’s museum (including the teens). You can find more things to do in Indy and our trip by reading this post.
If you haven’t been to Impression 5 in a while, I recommend you adding this to your weekend bucket list. Or if you have younger kids, plan a trip during the day (plus, less crowds!).

Speaking of hot cars and racing, I have to share some information about a hot car coming out in 2017!
It’s the 2017 Hyundai Elantra
I recently test drove the Elantra and it definitely has the “race to win” vibe. It was similar to the 2015 sports model we test drove last year but also had many modern upgrades that we enjoyed adding to our list of favorite features.
In addition to being both classy and modern, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited was great on gas. When you run errands as much as I do or like to travel, there’s nothing more important than a fully functional vehicle that gives you the most gas mileage for your buck. With an impressive 29 city and 38 highway mileage, this vehicle is the one you want to take on the road; you’ll definitely go far for your money.
The Elantra Limited is simply beautiful. It was sleek, comfortable and modern. Even the color was wonderful, a bright red (which screams sports car, right!?)
Here are some of my favorite features of this model include but aren’t limited to:
- 7 inch display audio with FM/AM/HD radio
- Hands Free Smart Trunk
- Side Mirror Turn Signal Indicators
- Blind Spot Detection with Read Cross Traffic Alert
- Dual Charging USB Ports
- Review Camera
- Proximity Key with Push Button Start
- Automatic Windows
- Leather Seating with Heated Front Seats
