Is It Worth Buying A Paper or Ordering Inserts For Coupons
We know that using coupons is a GREAT way to save money, but it’s not always the only way. However many food items can be purchased at better prices when we stack coupons on top of sales. So what do we do? The majority of the coupons still come from the Sunday newspaper. But you just don’t buy 1 paper each week. I mean.. saving .50 cents is only going to get you so far 😉
The rule of thumb is that you buy enough papers as people in your household. In my house, we have 5. So I will buy 5 papers (or 5 inserts or 5 of that specific coupon). I usually like to double that and just go with 10. That way I have enough to last me to the next time the sale comes around.
I used to my buy papers locally at my Dollar Tree store until 2 things happen.
- the price of the LSJ went up to $3 bucks and the Dollar Tree stopped carrying the papers.
- I found that I could get the same coupon (or better) with higher coupon value if I ordered through a clipping site.

I talk a lot about ordering from Wiz Clips and Insert Insanity. They are owned by the same company Game Changers.
You can order a pack of 10 specific coupons for $1.00 (plus shipping of .50 cents- flat fee). So if I wanted to order 30 coupons, I would pay $3.00 plus shipping fee of .50 cents (about the cost of a stamp).
The other option is to order the full inserts. If you are a person that likes to have the full insert each week (they have an auto bill service, which you can read all about over- Get Inserts Delivered to your door and don’t worry about it!)
Anyways, I sat down this afternoon and did an analysis of what we get in the Lansing State Journal compared to what Insert Insanity ships out. Insert Insanity ships from Florida, one of the best places to get coupons.
Why? Their coupons come from Region 1, which is considered to get the best of the best when it comes to coupons!
So I am going to break down each insert that we received today, Sunday, July 28th.
First Insert Insanity shipped out the full preview that I talked about here in the Sunday Coupon preview section. They all 6 inserts which included the Target ones!
- The Lansing State Journal did not get that. The LSJ received 5 inserts- 2 Smart Source, 2 red plum and 1 p&g. However, they were THIN.
- The Detroit Free Press only received 4 but they did receive more in their Red Plum. So you received more inserts from LSJ, but with a lower or lack of good coupons. The DFP you received fewer inserts, but a few more coupons.
You can skip all that and go with Insert Insanity (or another clipping service of your choice) and take the guesswork out of wondering what you will get each week!
To me, ordering inserts is the easiest. Now me personally I will be honest, I don’t like cutting. So I skip even ordering coupons and get the clipped ones. ( I will do a walk through my personal process later in this week). However, if you’re going to get inserts either get the DFP or start getting yours from Insert Insanity!

I noticed after getting my first order from insertinsanity that some of the brand names are different down south. The same Brownberry bread coupon I often clip from the Grand Rapids press is call Arnold bread down there. Will I still be able to use this coupon on brownberry here in Michigan?
Are they from the same company? I’ve noticed that yes there are some coupons that are different brands, since some are region based. If it’s a manufacturer coupon and our stores sell it up here, than yes you can use it up here. But if they are two different brands, then you would have to use the Brownberry coupon on Brownberry and Arnold on Arnold. Hope that helps!
