Tips for Saving on Craft Supplies

Christmas is coming and that means lots of crafts and gifts will be made. Many people save money on gifts by making the ones they give out and others just really dig crafting it up all winter long.

While it is true that making your own gifts and decorations can cost less, it sometimes does not with the price of crafts and craft materials going up.

You can still save money on craft supplies, though, so don’t give up. Read on for tips on how to save on crafting supplies.

  1.   Check out eBay of Etsy. Many crafters sell their extra supplies or supplies at wholesale prices on these websites. You can score some amazing deals by just searching.
  2. Ÿ  Go to local flea markets and swap meets. Just like eBay or Etsy, you will find crafters selling kits, extras and fabric pieces.

  3. Ÿ  Get the Sunday paper. Chain craft stores will place coupons and special sales in them on a regular basis. You can even find them for 50, 60 or even 70% off. JoAnn, Michaels, and Hobby Lobby have coupons in the paper or mobile coupons available every week! Plus if you’re a teacher you can get an additional discount at the above craft stores. Also if you’re a student you can get a 10% discount at JoAnn’s!
  4. Ÿ  Shop off-season. The day after a holiday is a great time to get craft supplies that can be used on year-round crafts. For instance, you can get red and green fabrics on after Christmas sales that can be used for crafts around Valentine’s day and for St. Patrick’s day.
  5. Ÿ  Shop for craft supplies at thrift stores. You will find everything from fabric, to paint to yarn at most thrift stores. Some of the best crafting projects come from these bits and pieces you will find.
  6. Ÿ  Get creative and think of ways to make things you own reusable. This will save you a bunch of money on craft supplies because you will be using what you already have and making it better
  7. Ÿ  Join groups on Facebook or in your community for crafters. You can then trade your unneeded supplies for ones you want or need for free or just the cost of shipping.
  8. Ÿ  When you find a good sale on things you need for many of your projects, stock up.
  9. Ÿ  Keep track of what you have in your stock. This will keep you fro re-buying items you may have that will work for a current project.
  10. Ÿ  Find a wholesaler of craft supplies. They can be your best friend.
  11. Ÿ  Think outside the (craft) box. Hardware stores, home improvement stores and even drug stores all carry supplies that can be great for crafting at lower prices.

This time of year is when I probably spend the most on crafts because I am always redoing my house at Christmas time. I plan to try to reuse a lot of what I have purchased over the past year and collected this summer. I look forward to showing you my Christmas decor in a few months!
